Lique has devoted herself to painting self-portraits for almost fifteen years. She takes a photo of herself every day, making a direct record of her face at arms-length. She selects certain images from this visual diary to become the basis for her paintings. Both her photography and her paintings explore authenticity and introspection in the tradition of Nan Goldin and Cindy Sherman and at the same time invoke the older Dutch tradition of self examination in Van Gogh and Rembrandt.
